Crew Boat Market Report - Feb 2018

Marcon presently has the following crew boats, pilot boats and launches officially available for sale, both domestically and abroad. Others can be developed on a private and confidential basis.

Market Overview
Of the 13,327 vessels and 3,819 barges Marcon tracks, 1,119 are crew, fast supply & pilot boats with 214 officially on the market for sale, plus we have 41 boats available for charter worldwide. 39.3% of the boats officially for sale are U.S. flag. 52 crew boats for sale worldwide were built within the last 10 years. 81 boats, or 37.85%, are 25 years of age or older. The oldest boat listed is a 51’, 460BHP 1961 built and located West Coast Mexico. This vessel is counterbalanced by two foreign 2017 built 48.87’ and 137.8’ LOA crewboats located in the Mediterranean and in Southeast Asia.

The number of crew boats officially on the market has fallen since a near record high of 229 in August 2017. Utilization levels and day rates remain depressed, but there have been several sales at low prices. Given price reductions, coupled with a very slight uptick in activity, a few buyers have been coming forward for the best deals. There are less FSVs officially on the market than our previous report, which is evidence of the improvement – although many more can be developed just a phone call away. Actual sale prices of all vessels & barges sold by Marcon so far in 2018 averaged 64.82% of asking prices, compared to 2017’s 81.49% and 2016’s 91.70%. Where vessel location is known, 84 boats for sale are in the U.S., followed by 30 in Southeast Asia, 26 in Europe, 22 in the Mid-East, 17 in Africa, 8 in the Mediterranean, 7 each in the Caribbean and in Latin America, 6 at undisclosed locations, 4 in Southwest Asia and 3 in the South Pacific. Of the crew, pilot boats and launches listed, the most popular engine is GM in 66 of 214 boats where engines are given, followed by 60 Cummins, 52 CATs, 10 MTUs, 8 with MAN-B&Ws, 5 Yanmar, 4 John Deere boats and 9 other types.
